People that know me – know I love to watch movies. Good movies, bad movies, new, old, there are only a few genres that I avoid.
That said, there are few movies that surprise me and even fewer that actually move me. Among the short list of those that had a powerful emotional and thought provoking effect on me, two of them were made by the same people.
The films Facing The Giants and Fireproof were both produced by Sherwood Pictures, a small outfit that is the media division of Sherwood Baptist Church. They are movies that I recommended to everyone I know and made a point of watching with my teen age grandchildren. What proved to be particularly gratifying was that they enjoyed them nearly as much as I.
So when I heard that Sherwood had a new film out, and that it was surprising everyone, I had to check it out. I haven’t seen it yet but it debuted this past weekend and premiered in fifth place among all movies! Billy Hollowell wrote in The Blaze online, “Here’s the astounding part about all of this: The people making these films aren’t award-winning directors and producers. The church’s pastors, Alex Kendrick (who directs, co-writes and often stars) and Stephen Kendrick (who produces and co-writes) are the men behind the camera. And church members, too, perform and work in the crew. It’s fascinating that these individuals consistently churn out independent hits.”
I am looking forward to seeing Courageous. Watch the clip below and you will be too.
