We have reached a time when it seems the overwhelming majority of Americans, while feeling the same about some things, are keeping quiet about them. Most notable are the blatant lies & illegal actions of many politicians, the demeaning & circumvention of our Constitution, and most recently the out and out war on people of faith & any public expression of that faith.
Are you afraid of the consequences for speaking your feelings? Have you bought into the whole politically correct/multiculturalism thing? Do you remember this:
“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
— by Martin Niemöller, prominent German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor, best known as the author of the poem First they came.
It may soon come to pass that if we fail to speak up, we may no longer be permitted to. If you think my statements extreme or untrue, perhaps you need to look around and remember that actions do not stand in a vacuum – they can easily be the first precipitate step onto the ‘slippery slope.’
What ever your opinion, stand up for it. Back it up with real information (if you can’t tell me why you believe something you are only a parrot of another persons thoughts) discuss your opinions with those you respect and then give them meaning in the voting booth.
