My America

When I think about this great country I live in my feelings are actually about the America in my mind much more so than the country as it is now in 2012. One of the things that troubles me the most is that my grandchildren may never share or perhaps even understand the joy of living in “My America.”

Now I am not waxing falsely nostalgic here – there always were and always will be strife and troubles in any nation. But the feeling of who we were and what we had made all that bearable. That is somewhat missing today.

Over 35 years ago, when Ronald Reagan was no longer Governor of California and before he became President he was doing a 3 minute radio broadcast that was listened to be some 40 – 50 million Americans regularly. He was our conscience, our motivator and sometimes our teacher. His talks were self written and self read. I recall hearing some of them. Unfortunately, unless you are at least 45 years old it is very unlikely that you do.

I think that now, more than ever before we need Ron and his vitality, his clarity and understanding. Here is a 3 minute audio of a broadcast from early 1977 titled: The Charity of Americans.
