Restoring Honor in the USA

On Saturday I shared something with a large group of people in Washington, DC near the steps of the Lincoln Memorial that was, in my experience at least – One of a Kind. The experience was refreshing and exhausting to say the least.

It was an unbelievably powerful time. Not because of Glen Beck or the other speakers or even the amazing Memorials around which we were gathered. It was refreshing to feel the power of peaceful demonstration in support of this great country, in support of faith in our lives, and in full belief that we can change the course of our country in a positive way.

This gathering of perhaps one half million people was about letting those in political power today know that we do not need their ‘radical transformation’ of our country. It was a monumental acknowledgment of the desire to get back to what has worked so well for the last 200 years, and not see our past with disdain.

The Republic of the United States of America has been a force for good in the world and is still the greatest place to live. Is it perfect? Nope, never was. Have we made serious mistakes and wronged not only others outside of the USA but many here in the country as well? Without a doubt. So what? Is there some government or country out there that hasn’t? That is not a justification. It is simply an observation.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Rom 3:23 NASB

We have things to fix but we are on the right track. The people I met and shared Saturday with were just regular, working, caring folks who are becoming very aware that we are being steered away from many things that we have done right in the name of correcting our errors.

The most amazing thing to me is the effrontery of the media in the wake of this gathering. Outside of Fox not one single news outlet seems to have covered the ‘rally’ with simply honest reporting. Where has journalism gone? Edward R. Murrow must be literally spinning in the ground. And President Obama’s comment, “It’s not surprising that someone like Mr. Beck is able to stir up a certain portion of the country,” was completely disingenuous. Beck is not stirring up people, he is responding to them. Something the government refuses to do.

The media even seems to have fallen in line with today’s political methods. Notice when anyone brings up the problems with what our leaders are doing these days, no one EVER answers the points raised. Instead they shout the questioner down, vilify them and attempt to impeach their motives. Screw the motives! Answer the question! Explain your actions! Explain your inaction!

I believe that the people who love this country are actively taking up Freedom of Speech and demanding that they be heard. By and large the liberals demand their rights while denying everyone else theirs. It is time to stand up and be counted. The ‘silent majority’ no more! Yes your opinions count – but not more or less than mine.

“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” The basic truth of this quote shines through, even without an authoritative source.
