On The Road To Euthanasia

I have spoken to friends and relatives often regarding the idea that seemingly innocuous decisions often lead us down that “slippery slope” situation that can be nearly impossible to pull back from.

Well, I see a situation forming that is positively frightening. Here is my mental ‘step by step’ process. Agree or disagree as you will, just follow the bouncing ball of progression.

1. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), since 1973, roughly 50 million legal induced abortions have been performed in the United States alone. According to the World Health Organization the worldwide numbers of induced abortions are over 42 million per year. Whether you call them fetuses or babies doesn’t matter – either way, that’s a lot of killing.

2. It has become very clear that President Obama’s Healthcare Plan does include limitation of benefits to older, sicker individuals. He has called for strengthening the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), a 15-member board of unelected officials created to rein in the cost of Medicare. The board can tweak Medicare to hold growth in spending beneath its target, mainly by making cuts to provider reimbursement rates. Reducing provider payments means reduced senior access to physicians, another form of rationing of health care that already occurs to some extent in Medicare today. The White House Office of the Press Secretary itself states the President’s plan will “promote value-based benefit designs.” Sound good? Think it through….is there an equal value of healthcare dollars spent on an 80 year old and a 30 year old? How does the cost of healthcare for a Stage Four cancer patient weigh in value compared to care for a, say diabetic?

3. And now the coup de grace: Ethicists Argue in Favor of ‘After-Birth Abortions‘ as Newborns ’Are Not Persons’ Say what? That can not possibly mean what it says, can it? I suggest you decide for yourself – read the original news piece by clicking on the title above or here.

Time to put on the brakes. I do not believe that most people desire the ultimate destination we are quite possibly headed for. No, we just didn’t really think anyone would actually allow it to go this far, and so we all have allowed it by being ‘wishy-washy’ when it comes to standing up for our morality.

Rev 3:15-16  I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. (Modern King James Version)

Perhaps it’s time for you to choose the direction you think we should be going in.
