Stephen R. Covey

If you read business books or self help books then you know the name Stephen R. Covey. His seminal work The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
is more than a classic.

As a measure of it’s reach: my wife, while working for the State participated in an ‘on the clock’ seminar built around the book/concept. That being said, I somehow missed his follow-up work, The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness
even though it was published in 2004.

Based on the recent recommendation of a friend, I have just started reading the book. Within the first 10 pages I came across two quotations that struck me powerfully enough for me to post them here. Actually, I feel that if I got nothing else from the entire work (not likely!) these quotes would have made it worth the nearly 400 page read.

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bounds. Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. – The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

And:

Few of us can do great things, but all of us can do small things with great love. – Mother Teresa

Not thoughts that are new to me, and probably not to you either, and yet…… Well, you know what they say, “When the pupil is ready, the teacher will arise.” Maybe I am ready, I hope so.

Thanks Lord, for surprises like this!
