Succeeding is really, really hard. Winning is only for those willing to ‘burn themselves out’ with overwhelming effort. Life is a ‘zero sum’ game, that is – it’s a competition. Therefore when anyone wins someone else must lose. Your failure is someone else’s fault. We seem to be told these things, and others, every single day. But are they true? Fact or opinion?
The TRUTH: Success is not easy. BUT, success and failure are achieved with exactly the same amount of difficulty.
The TRUTH: Winning and losing demand exactly the same level of effort. Where you spend your energy each and every day will determine your tomorrows.
The TRUTH: Life deals the cards, and we play the hand. Not all people can achieve the same fortune and fame but it is within the power of each of us to improve and win through to prosperity and happiness.
The TRUTH: Your success is your fault. Your failure is your fault. Because your actions are your fault (choice) and your attitude is your (choice) fault.
The most accomplished people all tell you that it isn’t so very difficult. They just decided what needed to be done and started moving on whether it was fun or convenient or anything else – and every day they just made sure to do something more toward the goal.
So how then do you figure out what needs to be done?
You have to first determine where you are at.
You then have to choose where you are going.
You must develop a step by step plan to get there.
You need to take some positive action in the direction you have chosen, each and every day. Action is the magic.
All the planning and hoping in the world won’t get you there. In 1963 Dusty Springfield’s song said it all. “Wishin’ & Hopin’, and Thinkin’ and Prayin’, Plannin’ and Dreamin’.” Won’t get you where you want to go. You just have to get off your rusty dusty and ACT.
You don’t have to LIKE it. You only have to do it. Don’t look at the task….look only at the GOAL. One final thought in regard to action. Bravery is not the lack of fear. It is doing what needs to be done in spite of fear. Bravery is commitment.
Day by day is key. Your actions TODAY determine your results tomorrow. You are not the sum of yesterdays mistakes. You are the sum of todays actions alone. When you are taking stock of how you are doing – don’t take your results as seriously as you take your efforts. After all, you can only control the effort but the results are how we learn to focus our actions.
Believe this TRUTH: Plan your work and Work your plan, and understand that there is no true success without the knowledge brought about by some failures. Winston Churchill said: “Never, never, never, never give up.”
And don’t you either.
